ANYWAY (Pat Devlin) - Recorded in the summer of 1979, this
is the only original song C.E. ever played. Pat Devlin soon left for the
East Coast and Stevie
and L.T. became co-guitarists. This features the original C.E. lineup
with Ken Hanson on drums, Pat and Stevie.on guitar Tommy on bass and me
on farfisa organ. |
 Me
and Jimmy Johnson at Mike Moga's garage - (circa Spring 1980)

Hanson and Tommy Gerlach - (circa Spring 1980)
|
ANYWAY (Live) - This was recorded at the "Last Waltz"
going away party held at Andy Peterson's at the end of the Summer before
Pat's family moved out East. We had a coin box made out of a Nestle's
Quik can which had a crocheted cover of a man that we used to collect "beer"
money during gigs and this was the night "Corny" got thrown
under the wheels of Pat's departing commuter train. |
MINGLEWOOD BLUES - This was recorded at the "Last
Waltz" as well. The beginning is typical of the type of discussion
that went on before each and every song. This has all the usual suspects
with the addition of Jaimoe on harmonica and Kanaval on "YEAH!" |
MYSTERY DANCE> PEACE FROG - This was recorded at
Dougall Smith's party in Spring of 1981. "Airhead" was my
nickname at the time and we used to check microphones by saying "Airhead
1 Airhead 2 Airhead 3". Don't ask me why. Everyone in our
collection of friends seemed to have nicknames:
Toes, Stumalo,
Jaimoe, Samos, Tea Bags,
Smitty, L.T.,
Kermit, Tuna, Kannabis,
Kimo and many more. |
UH, UH, EUGENE - Also recorded at Dougall's, this song
came from a novelty record we heard called
"Crazy Joe and the
Variable Speed Band". I include it purely for nostalgic
reasons...it should NOT be listened to seriously. |
SOUTHERN MAN> BASS SOLO> CHELSEA - This was recorded
on Don Schumacher's driveway at a rowdy party. and dedicated to our old
friend Matt "Muddy
Waters" Parker. It's around 20 minutes long with a classic
Gerlach bass solo which I end up devolving into an
Elvis song (naturally). |

MUNSTER'S THEME - Recorded at Sweeney's Springtime party
1981. This is another novelty song that we used to do to pump up the
crowd. The Farfisa was a perfect sound for this one. Included as proof
of our eclectic reportoire. |
TOP OF THE POPS - Another eclectic number also recorded at
Sweeney's. This is a Kinks song
that we all thought was pretty funny especially since we weren't
anywhere near topping the charts. Stevie sings this one. |
ALL DAY AND ALL OF THE NIGHT - Another Kinks song, this
one recorded at Mark Smith's basement in Spring of 1981. That's Smitty
doing the bumpers at the beginning. |
SAINT STEPHEN> LOVELIGHT - Recorded in the Spring of
1982 at the LF College commons room with full sound system and an
out-of-tune piano on stage during a campus festival. By this time,
Stevie had left to form
the
Yardapes and Bob Curran joined L.T. on guitar. A friend from the
college Tom Bergstrom sat in on harmonica and Jimmy Johnson played drums
(his bass pedal broke during Lovelight). Tommy Gerlach and I sang the
vocals. |
NITE KLUB - Recorded in the Gerlachs basement in late 1982
after I returned from Austin. I believe it includes L.T. and Bob Curran
on guitar but I may be wrong. A great song by The Specials that we used
to play real loud and would jump around on the couches at Delta House. |
MOODS FOR MODERNS - Also recorded in the Gerlachs
basement, this Elvis Costello tune was a staple of later C.E. gigs. |
